Peace

Peace Program

The peace program works to provide opportunities for young people and adults in Alberta to actively engage in the process of peace-making. Since Alberta’s demographic identity is shifting, one way we can learn to appreciate the uniqueness of this diversity is to seek peace and pursue it. During the four months with MCCAB, I have met and worked with extraordinary people who are more than willing to give peace a chance.

Highlights

  • MCC Learning Tour in Colombia, three participants from Alberta attended the learning tour which focused on Peace and Justice Issues.
  • Laurel Borinsenko, MCC Alumni, shared about peace work in Burkina Faso.
  • Inter-faith Peace forum, held this past September at Community of Christ Church.
  • MCC UN Peace and Conflict conference, participated in the conference held in New York City, October 2006.
  • Community Awareness through Service and Action (CASA), a group of students from Rosthern Junior College in Saskatchewan participated in the program.
  • MCC Peace Network, hosted by MCC Alberta
  • Peaceful Action in Conflict, a series of workshops focusing on peace and conflict resolution were presented to a group of 68 participants of the International Volunteer Exchange Program in Saskatchewan. Participants were able to share their own experiences of peace and conflict and learn from them.
  • Ray Dirks, Mennonite Heritage Center Gallery, shared about peace work in the Congo.
